EN381 Protective clothing for users of hand-held chain saws.

The European Norm EN381 - Protective clothing for users of hand-held chain saws, consist of separate sub-sections for protection covering different parts of the body:

  • EN 381-1:1993. Protective clothing for users of hand-held chain saws. Test rig for testing resistance to cutting by a chain saw
  • EN 381-2:1995. Protective clothing for users of hand-held chain saws. Test methods for leg protectors
  • EN 381-3:1996. Protective clothing for users of hand-held chain saws. Test methods for footwear
  • EN 381-4:1999. Protective clothing for users of hand-held chain saws. Test methods for chainsaw protective gloves
  • EN 381-5:1995. Protective clothing for users of hand-held chain saws. Requirements for leg protectors
  • EN 381-7:1999. Protective clothing for users of hand-held chain saws. Requirements for chainsaw protective gloves
  • EN 381-8:1997. Protective clothing for users of hand-held chain saws. Test methods for chain saw protective gaiters

The norm also references different CLASS levels, which denominate the speed of the chain used in conducting the chain-saw cut test:

  • Class 0: 16m/s (metres per second)
  • Class 1: 20m/s (metres per second)
  • Class 2: 24m/s (metres per second)
  • Class 3: 28m/s (metres per second)
  • Class 4: 32m/s (metres per second)
